The Homer Simpson Test

... and something about Sir Isaac Newton

I was invited to give a talk to my son Jack's class about light. The children were aged seven and so I gave some thought to how I was going to pitch the talk. I decided to get their attention by showing them these two images and asked them if they could name one of the characters.

Isaac Newton and Homer Simpson

All hands shot up. OK, they all knew Homer. I then asked if anyone could name both men. all hands went down. I told them that the other man was Sir Isaac Newton and explained that I would talk about Newton's great work on the nature of light. I then said that there was a direct link between Newton and Homer Simpson and at the end of the talk I would reveal what that connection is. Do you know the answer?
